I Believe…I Can Run A 100 Mile Race Without Training

It is one week until the race. The Rocky Raccoon 100, located in Huntsville, Texas. I sit here debating on if I should run anything more this weekend than my active job’s requirement, usually less than 4 miles, in 150 yard light sprints, aka valet. The last long run I did was on January 1st, which was 21 miles. Since then, there has been nothing. One week. Tomorrow I will likely run over 20, to a marathon class I am assistant teaching at Longview Community College. It sounds fun, so I’ll do it. If that is training then so be it. One week. Part 17: 9.5 Months After Losing Da Shoes: The Kansas City Marathon

October 16th, 2010
The excitement was in the air. Chad and I got up uber early, hit some oatmeal with some whey protein added to it, based on a suggestion. Figured I could test that today. Why not? An hour later, we both hit some chia seeds with some honey and lime. Yummy. Off to the race!

Part 2: Injuries!

The ticking time bomb of running the Miami Marathon was always in the back of my mind any day I didn’t run or when I didn’t feel good. Each time I thought about it, I tried to remember that I didn’t care about the marathon, or even finishing it. I was just gonna run and whatever happened, happened. I was actually not training at all, if you could call that not training. I was simply choosing to run further every month up until the marathon to make it easier. Still though, I doubt I would have pushed through such pain if I secretly didn’t have some desire of the marathon in me. It did cause alot of suffering however. Continue reading
